For the past couple years pump play has made a significant comeback in paintball. The game itself has seen some highs and lows, but more recently has hit the limelight. It seems more and more paintball companies are acknowledging its existence, and developing new pump paintball gear to cater to this re-emerging market.
Needless to say, if you are considering getting into pump paintball, there is no better time than now. There are plenty of options as far as gear goes, so finding what you are looking for is not a problem.
Before you run off to start looking at gear, you ought to be informed on what kind of gear you will need. You can find names of specific types of gear below.
1. Hopper – a good pump hopper will often be gravity fed. Some players choose to use an electronic loader, but at most all you need is a good gravity feed hopper. An electronic one is simply overkill. An example of a good gravity feed hopper is the Proto Primo, which is uniquely designed to feed extremely fast. Another thing to note is some players prefer to use
2. Pump Gun – the two major types of pump paintball guns are stock class and open class. Stock class pump markers use 10+ round feed tubes and 12 gram co2 cartridges. If you want to get into stock class tournaments then you will need a stock class marker. The other option is to get a pump that uses a hopper and air tank, which is the more popular option.
3. Pod Pack – if you plan on using a 50 round hopper, then you might want to consider getting a 50 round pod pack. PB Mafia makes a good one that holds 5 50 round pods, which is perfect for those longer games. If you play stock class, then a stock class paintball harness will also do the trick.
4. Tank – while you could use just about any tank to power your pump marker, some prefer a smaller sized tank more suited for pump play. You can find such tanks made by Ninja paintball, of which are clean shooting HPA tanks, perfect for a pump.
Above are 4 of the essential gear you will want for pump play. Having the right gear is important, especially if you want to survive as an underdog pump player in a sea of semi-shooting wolves.
